Here are but a few of the historical places to visit. Carlisle Castle once home to Mary Queen of Scots. Carlisle Cathedral, founded in 1122, with stained glass from 14th - 20th centuries. The Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery. To the east of Carlisle, you can visit a monument to an amazing feat of early engineering and determination "Hadrians Wall" spanning nearly 2,000 years of history. Also audio visual displays of marriages taking place.
Journey on west to Dumfries and you are in the land of Rabbie Burns, the well known poet.
Traditional Burns Suppers are held in commemoration of him and serving up of the Scottish dish "Haggis".
