Richness and variety, always something fresh to discover...
Many of the lakes names are familiar to us all, evoking fond memories and inspiring new visits.
Windermere, the longest lake in England; Coniston with the 'Old Man' towering above; clear and pure Thirlmere; tiny Rydale Water, owned by the National Trust and of course Wordsworths' Grasmere. The towns are equally famous - from historic Kendal in the south, famous for its mint cake and castle to Bowness-on-Windermere with pleasure craft that ply the lake all year round.
