Silloth is on the Solway Firth Cumbria’s popular seaside resort a Victorian town the views across the Solway of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland are fantastic. In the other direction we are backed by the Lake District Fells and Mountains and to the east we have Hadrian’s Wall.
Silloth has wide tree lined streets inset with granite sets; the promenade is excellent for walking and a green with lots of recreation facilities where various festivals are held during the summer.
For those who prefer a round of golf Silloth-on-Solway has its own championship 18-hole golf course and it is just a short drive to several other top courses in and around the area. There is also a putting green close to the holiday centre as well as facilities to enjoy bowls wind-surfing a launch plus ramp for jet-ski’s & pleasure boats and for the kids Silloth boasts its’ own funfair on the sea-front next to the sandy west beach stretching for 13 miles to Maryport.
Western Lakes & Coast
In the beautiful coastal town of Whitehaven you will find a whole host of attractions such as The Beacon The Rum Story which tells the tale of the UK rum trade over the centuries and Haig Colliery Mining Museum. Sellafield Visitors Centre is only a short drive away and provides an interactive hands-on day out for budding scientists of all ages. Then there’s the Muncaster Experience in Ravenglass with its’ historic haunted castle resident ghost Tom Fool and the World Owl Centre.
For those with a thirst for knowledge don't forget the Senhouse Roman Museum or The Lake District Coast Aquarium (both in Maryport) which now boasts the largest lobster ever caught off British waters. For the more furry kind of four-legged friends there’s Trotters World of Animals near Keswick with hundreds of animals plus reptiles and birds of prey. Steam-driven engine ‘La’al Ratty’ still runs along the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway where you can sit back relax and enjoy the spectacular views unfolding before your very eyes.
For a more rural feel the Lakeland Sheep & Wool Visitor Centre in Cockermouth has live sheep and dog shows daily or you can take the Jennings Brewery Tour. There's Bank Mill Tropical Butterfly House or The Gincase (both situated near Silloth) with its’ farm park picnic area and gallery.
